Christianity In America

Home > God > God does not exist > secular humanism > religions created by people

Religions are systems created by people for their own purposes.

I have to agree in part with this one, religions are human creations. Although I do not agree that people create religions for their own purposes -- such as to explain the unexplainable. The reason why people create religions is because God has put the knowledge of Himself into all people. Religions are our response to that knowledge of God. Unfortunately, in most cases it is the wrong response.

This is an important distinction with Christianity. Although many people call Christianity a religion, Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship. I'm not saying that there is not a religion called Christianity. However, believers in Christ are not joining a religion, they are entering into a relationship with God. This distinction aside, the evidence shows that Christianity, alone out of all religions, was not created by people.

For example...

We see the evidence that all other religions are human creations because they all have key features that are the same, and which are in agreement with our human desires. We talk about this on another of our web sites: What do other religions have in common?

Christianity, is different. It is unlike anything people would think to create. For example, in Christianity salvation is a free gift from God. There is nothing you can do to save yourself. All other religions have various things you need to do, or requirements for good works. People don't feel right getting something, unless we have somehow paid for it. So human created religions all require us to do things in order to have salvation.

Christianity is different. Christianity is a relationship with God based on love. We are saved because God loves us. Our salvation is a free gift, lovingly given to all of us and paid for by the sacrifice of Jesus.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16 (NLT)

You will not find this sacrifical love in any human created religion.
