DIVORCED & REMARRIED

"but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery." Matthew 5:32 (NASB)

Dear MTA:

I have three children with my second my second husband (my first abandoned me); Do I divorce this husband or kill my first so I am no longer adultery? Which is more forgiveable? I know I am going to the extreme, but is this really what God wants?

-Jane

Hello Jane:

Thank you for your question. A lot of people have been asking this same question the past couple of weeks, so I think I'll add your email to our web site.

It is never right to commit a sin in order to try to fix a past sin. And we are all sinners, who continue to make mistakes and sin even after be begin trusting Christ for our salvation. So what does God tell us to do when we sin?

"confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you might be healed." - James 5:16

You've probably already done this. I'm guessing that the fact trhat this is your second marriage is not a secret.

Also confess your sins in prayer to the Lord.

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9

God already knows everything you've done, so you are not telling him something new. But He wants us to talk about our sins with Him as a part of our healing process.

And finally make your current marriage the best marriage in the world.

Yours in the Love of Christ,
Steve
