You can not lose your salvation. (1 John 5:10-13, John 5:24, Romans 8:38,39, John 10:29, Ephesians 3:12 and others)
There are, however, two circumstances that can apply:
1) You were not saved in the first place. Some people are so anxious to gain eternal life that they intellectually accept Christ so they can get the benefit of salvation; but they have not accepted Christ in their heart.
2) You are saved, but you
are backsliding in your sanctification. Once we are saved, the Holy Spirit works
with us in the process of sanctification. This is a process of growing to be
more Christ-like. However, in our falleness we all sometimes turn our backs
on the Holy Spirit and do wrong. We all do this in small ways, and sometimes
some do it in a big way. As He always does, God does not force us to do what
we don't want to do. If we want to follow our fallen nature, God let's us--but
He (the Holy Spirit) draws away from our sin. So although we still have the
Holy Spirit in us, our close relationship with the Holy Spirit is no longer
so close.
