Home > How Good > Don't Know

How good do you have to be to get into heaven?

Your answer is that you don't know.

The Bible can help. It has the answer.

It does not matter what you have done wrong. It does not matter how bad you have been or how good you have been. Even the most perfect person in the world is a horrible sinner in God's eyes:

"How can people like us be saved? We are all infected and impure with sin. When we proudly display our righteous deeds, we find they are but filthy rags. " - Isaiah 64:6 (NLT)

If we all are terrible sinners, that means we all deserve some terrible punishment. This is a true statement.

"For the wages of sin is death..." - Romans 6:23a (NLT)

What we deserve is death. The penalty for what we have done wrong is the death penalty. But there is more to the above verse.

"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord." - Romans 6:23 (NLT)

Eternal life--heaven--is available to us all through Christ. And it sounds as though it is free. What does that mean? And how do we get to heaven through Christ?

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16 (NIV)

Believe in Jesus, the Son of God. He died in your place, taking on Himself the penalty you owe for everything you've done wrong. How could He do that? Jesus is God. Only through His death do we live. And through His resurrection to life we see that we also will be resurrected to eternal life.

If you trust in Christ the Son of God, believing that He died to pay the penalty for your sins, you will be saved.
