Does God bless America because
we ask him to?
Is God on our (America's) side?
The answer to both of these questions is no!
I see signs everywhere that say God bless America. They are hanging
from buildings, in car windows, and in the music we hear on the
radio. But does God bless America because we have asked Him to?
The Bible tells us no. The Bible tells us that God blesses those
who obey Him.
"But if you are careful to obey him
[an angel sent by God], following all my instructions, then I will
be an enemy to your enemies, and I will oppose those who oppose
you."-- Exodus 23:22 (NLT)
"Determine to only obey the Lord;
then he will rescue you... "-- 1 Samuel 7:3 (NLT)
The Bible also tells us that God is not on our side, nor on the
side of any other country including Israel. God is on God's side
only. God's sole purpose is to see that His purposes are accomplished.
If we are obeying God, then we are on God's side and we will be
blessed. If we are doing God's will, then we are on God's side and
we will be blessed.
God is not on the side of any one country, but
as a country we
can choose to be on God's side.
Read the books of Judges and First Samuel in the bible. You will
see how God blesses Israel when Israel obeys God, and how God withdraws
his blessing when Israel disobeys God.
How can we ensure that America is blessed by God?
We need to obey God. We need to live our lives as God has shown
us (in the Bible) we should live them. We cannot be Christians in
word alone, living our lives based on human wisdom. Our actions
must show our obedience to God's will.
